Oracular - Interview via Ouija board

Hey! So I saw you guys were playing Horror Punk Fest, took a listen and now I’m hooked! You guys remind me of early misfits, along with some son of Sam!

Can you sum up Oracular and tell me where the name comes from?

Oracular is a combination of many things. We like to explore different styles within our songs while still keeping true to the horror punk foundation. The great thing about us is we're all so diverse in our music tastes and nothing is off the table. We find this keeps the energy of the band at its highest because even we don't know what we'll come up with next.

You project a lot with your voice, and have a commanding presence across tracks, the scream on “dancing on your grave” was chefs kiss though. How do you keep that from frying your voice? I’ve got to add, there’s nothing cooler than a well placed scream.

First of all thank-you so much for the compliment. I've always used my voice as an outlet and a pure release of energy. The main melodic vocals are definitely influenced from bands such as misfits, blitzkid and that sort of thing but at the same time even bands like the smiths.

The main influence in terms of performing live though i would say more 80s punk and hardcore like Black flag or the Germs. I've always loved the aggression and passion of those bands and the release that you get from performing in that way is just the best not just for the show but for me personally aswell in my own head.

The screaming is very much for the same reason and i won't lie and say i have a technique because i don't,  its a release of aggression and frustration that i find therapeutic. Dancing on my grave was actually the first song I've done that on. I just did it in practice and we all agreed it worked.

Also people that heard it seemed to dig it too so yeah maybe i will need to learn some technique to do more of it in the future

Oracular Performing Live

Horror punk fest is almost here, what does it mean to play such a cool looking festival?

The horror punk fest is an absolute honour to play. A great label and one hell of a line up.
I think a scene like this is special because its not a part of mainstream society and i think thats important especially in this day .People want to belong somewhere and at those shows they do.
We're honoured aswell as we get to open the festival and it will be our first kind of official introduction to the scene. We are very excited!

Finally if Oracular was a cosmic horror style hive-mind, what horror movie would you all agree is the best?

It's got to be Child's Play! It's a classic, its horror and it's really playful with the genre as whole. Everyone had a doll as a kid so its something that everyone can relate to!
