Interview with Nervous Twitch

I caught up with Erin and Jay from Nervous Twitch to ask about touring, new music and horror movies

First off, you seem to be touring quite a lot at the moment, how’s the touring been?

I think we are possibly always accidentally touring??? we love to travel around, meet new people and catching up with old friends. It's great to play new venues too. We have played with a few new

Promoters in new towns recently, it’s great to still reach these places.

When I saw you, it was a tiny gig, yet you still gave it 110%. I’ve seen huge bands who’ve been far less enthusiastic to play. How do you keep up that intensity?

We wouldn’t say the size of a venue would ever match the enthusiasm, we’re probably more motivated by a ‘vibe’ or attitude of a promoter or audience. But I (Erin) have a lot of energy to give so I'm not sure I ever have an off switch for that regardless of the venue!

Although I’m thepunkzine, I cover everything punk adjacent. Your sound sort of reminded me of early day punk, I can hear some Ramones influence, as well as newer influences like early green day. At points the guitar and drums reminded me of Souxie and the banshees. What would you say you sound is, and who are your influences?

It's really hard to pin down our sound because it can change from one song to the next, we have released a lot of music and there's a fair bit of variety there. We don't have a direct influence as such, we draw from everything from 60's Pop to Garage, late 70's early 80's punk, right through tp 80's Indie and 90's lofi alternative rock.

When I saw you, the last track you played sounded like a hardcore punk track. A really cool way to end the show, you’ve since told me that it’s actually a cover of an older song, can you tell me about that?

It’s a garage punk classic, maybe you could trace the lineage of hardcore punk back to that time in music? We aren’t all really into much hardcore, a handful of bands maybe. Possibly the energy in our delivery that could be reminiscent of that scene?

Your album “The Day Job Gets in the Way is fantastic! Are you currently writing new music or is the focus still on promoting the album?

We have shows right through to the end of the year and are still promoting the album. We are always writing really! And are looking forward to the release of our next album in 2027! We've finished recording it, just the mixing and a few finishing touches!

Because it’s that time of year…. What is your favourite horror movie?

That's a great question as I’m (Jay) massive horror fan! I’ve been watching a lot of the Chucky franchise recently, but my personal favourites are The NIghtmare on Elm Street films. I know Erin would say American Werewolf in London!

Is there anything you’d like to say to anyone reading this?

Keep an eye out for our new album.
