First off, well fucking done on All my Sins, this song is a serious shit kicker. I’m going to ask about the inspiration for this track, but first, how does it feel to be back?
Thank you for the kind words man. It feels immense to be back on The Hell Train; writing, recording and playing live with Dolium, although I have to say, the scenery is pretty shit.
All my Sins sounds like it’s come from a man who has “seen stuff”. What drove this track, and at what point did you realise you had a blazing single?
Failure and frustration drove this track and everything that is about to follow. Without two decades of struggle and disappointment, this next phase of Dolium just wouldn't exist. All My Sins was never intended as a single either, it wasn't the most obvious choice, but it was agreed that it's the perfect introduction to the next era of Dolium.
What are some of Dolium’s influences? I can sort of hear some cramps in their, a bit of the faster Bauhaus stuff… but then with a track like Future in hands, it sounds like a deranged ska rendition of My Sharona?!
Our influences are varied, from the early Rockabilly days and through the Cramps as you suggested, to Big Black, Birthday Party, Stooges, Pixies, Sonic Youth, Velvet Underground, Joy Division, Nirvana and Kraftwerk. We could venture into obscurity, but what would be the point? I'm sure you get the idea, ha!
You have a live release coming as part of a wider Sister9 recordings release. Selfishly I was hyped to see a live version of Dog Bowl on there (sorry to anyone who would rather it was any other song) Can you tell me a bit about the live release?
Ah yeah, well, Dog Bowl is included on Volume 1 of Sister 9's first wave of Studio Tecna sessions, recorded in Sheffield. We recorded three live tracks that day, so there's more to be heard from the session. It's all discoverable at
